Which staff members do NHS Dumfries and Galloway want to hear from, and what do they want to find out from us? 

​NHS Dumfries and Galloway wants to hear the views and experiences of ethnic minority staff members who work in the NHS and their joint teams, including Black, Asian, Arab, Mixed heritage and minority White groups such as Gypsy / Travellers. 
They want to find out about:
  • your experience of working within NHS Dumfries and Galloway and their joint health and social care / home teams including what you think would make this better
  • your thoughts on what should be in NHS Dumfries and Galloway’s Anti-Racism Plan.
They would like to hear from ethnic minority staff members of all racial and cultural backgrounds; of all ages, genders, abilities, and identities; of all job roles, bands and pay scales; and in all locations across Dumfries and Galloway. No-one’s story is more important than anyone else’s and they want to hear from as many of you as possible. 

Why should I share my story?  What difference will it make?

​Ethnic minority staff make vital contributions to the NHS and Health and Social Care teams, as well as to patients and service users, and to Dumfries and Galloway and Scotland as a whole.  Despite this, we know that you may be facing barriers, challenges and unequal treatment, both in the workplace and as patients or service users.  This needs to change.

NHS Dumfries and Galloway wants to build on the work that was done to gather stories of ethnic minority staff members in 2021, gathering more up to date information and exploring your experiences in more detail.  They have made a commitment to making sure what you tell them leads to action, and the stories and experiences you share now will be used to:
  • further increase the Health and Social Care Partnership’s understanding of the experiences of ethnic minority people within the workforce, as well as what needs to be done to help make the workplace more accessible and inclusive
  • help inform the priorities of our Ethnic Minority Staff Network, to make sure that ethnic minority staff within the workforce have a voice and mechanism to influence change within the Partnership
  • help NHS Dumfries and Galloway tackle racism, discrimination and their consequences by informing their Anti-Racism Plan.  This will help to turn the commitments the Board made in their recent Anti-Racism statement into real action.
